About the project

The urgent need to mitigate climate change and limit greenhouse gas emissions drives the need to reduce the use of fossil fuels and increase the use of alternative energy sources such as hydrogen.

However, to apply hydrogen safely, traceable measures for leak testing, material compatibility, sensors for process monitoring, and odorization are required to demonstrate compliance with legislation.

“Metrology for the hydrogen supply chain” is designed to provide new and improved standards for safe hydrogen application, flow measurement, hydrogen quality assessment, and custody transfer. Together with the results of previous projects, an infrastructure will be created that will provide measurement data suitable for demonstrating compliance with regulations and contracts. This will help increase the use of hydrogen and help society adapt to the use of hydrogen instead of fossil fuels.

The Project is coordinated by VSL and involves the participation of 27 Partners from all over Europe, which will work together for 36 months, starting from October 1, 2022.
